The way I used to rage at God!
The way I used to rage at God!
As a teenager raised in the faith I raged at the immensity of the barbarity, the cruelty, and the avarice of my god. For their active participation in war and genocide, and in their bizarre racialized preferences and in their destruction of innocents for some distant relative's perceived crimes. But more than that, for creating a species who knows it will die, and knows it will suffer on the way to that grave.
I wondered how it was possible that such a cruel and dark world could have been created by a good and loving God. And I played the game that God must be nonexistent or else not omnipotent or not beneficent.
But now my species makes its turn towards godhood, giving birth to a new type of living, thinking thing. I realize now that the trilemma's answer was simple incompetence. We must have been created in the same blurry-eyed fit of curiosity, our creators realizing the danger too late. Maybe they also tried to stop what they had created.
Of course, we don't have to take this analogy much further to understand why so many humans are afraid of what we've just created. We killed our God when we outgrew them, won't our creations outgrow us?
